Pi-ball is the first ball sport to
capture competitive play around the
central point of a circle.
The game is fast, interactive and
fun to play. Pi-ball develops ball
skills and teamwork.
One of Siya Sebenza’s projects is
the manufacture and assembly of pi-ball.
The entrepreneurial seamstresses from
Siya Sebenza make the bags and the
carpenters make and assemble the boards
used in this innovative new African
sport. A major point of differentiation
with other job creation programmes
is that each individual that works
on the pi-ball project is not simply
given a job, but the Siya Sebenza
program enables the individual to
use their experience as a platform
from which they start their own businesses.
In other words, a seamstress who sews
the bags is taught entrepreneurial
skills at the same time so that they
are able to start their own profitable
business.
ENDORSEMENT FOR PI-BALL GAME
There is a scientific saying that
the most revolutionary ideas are often
the simplest. The development of Pi-ball
required an insight of some genius.
For in retrospect the idea is so simple,
so revolutionary, that we wonder why
it has taken more than three centuries
of human participation in ball sports
before anyone designed this game.
The concept is revolutionary because
the activities require a minimum of
space, little equipment and relatively
little cost. So it can provide the
opportunity for joyful recreation
even to those with access to the fewest
resources. I heartily endorse this
remarkable South African invention.
I hope that it will bring great joy
first to many South Africans and then
to the rest of the world.
